Understanding the Fundamentals of Motion Control Systems

Motion control devices continue to increase in popularity, and why not? These systems can automate mechanical tasks and get things done faster and easier. However, for precision motor control, a number of critical factors must be considered, such as the proper components and their placement.

The amplifier, also called the drive, is responsible for taking commands from the controller to generate the necessary drive and move the motor. The motor is the part that actually converts electrical energy into mechanical energy, in turn producing the required torque to perform the desired movement. From ball screws and bearings to sensors and actuators, every component must be carefully chosen and implemented to achieve the best performance.

If you could use further clarification as to what motion control components are, how they work and how they can be used to reduce human effort and increase efficiency, the following infographic may help.
