Nucor Corporation chairman, president and chief executive officer Daniel R. DiMicco has been appointed to the United States Manufacturing Council by U.S. Commerce Secretary Carlos M. Gutierrez.
The Manufacturing Council was established to ensure regular communication between the federal government and manufacturing sector. The council works directly with the Commerce Department to advocate, coordinate and implement policies that seek to strengthen U.S. manufacturers' competitiveness worldwide. The newly appointed council consists of 14 private-sector executives who reflect the diversity of industry in company size and geography.
"The Manufacturing Council is a strong voice for the private sector,” said Gutierrez. “The council focuses on issues that are critical to manufacturing competitiveness, including improving innovation, lowering energy costs and preparing a skilled workforce for the jobs of the future. I look forward to working closely with the council to ensure that the U.S. manufacturing sector competes on a level playing field in the world marketplace for generations to come."
In addition to Mr. DiMicco, the members of the council include:

DiMicco has been widely recognized as a dynamic promoter of free trade for manufacturing in the United States. He also holds a deep conviction for the strong enforcement of our promulgated trade laws.
DiMicco has been president and CEO of Nucor Corporation since 2000. He was elected vice chairman in 2001 and chairman in 2006. DiMicco has held increasing roles in management since he joined Nucor in 1982. Prior to Nucor, he worked for Republic Steel Corporation after completing his masters in science degree in metallurgy and materials science from the University of Pennsylvania and his bachelors of science in engineering, metallurgy and material science from Brown University.
