Unemployment rate 32.9 percent among recent dropouts

Between October 2004 and October 2005, about 400,000 young people dropped out of high school. The unemployment rate for these high school dropouts was 32.9 percent in October 2005, while the unemployment rate of 2005 high school graduates who had not enrolled in college was 20.6 percent. Among recent high school graduates who were in college, the unemployment rate was 8.4 percent in October. These are the results of a study released recently by the U.S. Department of Labor's Bureau of Labor Statistics.
