HK Systems takes charge of Caterpillar plant inventory

Workers driving computer-equipped forklifts dart through the aisles of a massive warehouse on the grounds of a Caterpillar Inc. production plant just outside Peoria, Ill.

New Berlin-based HK Systems Inc. bought this 570,000-square-foot facility from Caterpillar in late 2006, and a new division of the company is handling the majority of parts going into engines that the Caterpillar plant produces for tractors, semis and other vehicles.
