In the process of carrying out this work, Marquez, a 30-year-old member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), has inspired numerous other young engineers to strive and also to appreciate the rich rewards of the profession. Marquez and 15 other high achievers in their early careers are the New Faces of Engineering for 2006, according to a consortium of technical organizations that are participating in Engineers Week, which concluded on Feb. 25.
ASME nominated Marquez, a resident of Venezuela who currently serves as a consultant to ETH Sustainability in Zurich, Switzerland. At ETH, Marquez assists companies in meeting corporate environmental goals and also involves young men and women in engineering and technology. Marquez has worked on projects in oil research, energy, and automotive safety. Last year, Marquez spoke at the global forum, Engineers for a Sustainable World.
While Timo Marquez is recognized for his commitment to environmental engineering and sustainability, the other New Faces of Engineering embody high-level leadership and technical ability in other areas of the profession. Other honorees have made contributions in airport security, chemical waste remediation, and systems control.
The New Faces of Engineering have received national recognition; they appeared in the Feb. 15 issue of USA Today.
