Donaldson unveils neat alternative to desiccant filters

RP news wires, Noria Corporation
Donaldson Company Inc., a leading, worldwide provider of filtration systems, announced the release of its family of new Thermally Reactive Advanced Protection (T.R.A.P.) breathers. The patented, innovative technology used in Donaldson's T.R.A.P. breathers utilizes a new and superior method to eliminate moisture from hydraulic reservoirs.

Water contamination causes major problems in hydraulic systems and oil-wetted machinery. Donaldson's T.R.A.P. breather begins removing atmospheric moisture at only 15 percent relative humidity. Traditional desiccant breathers are limited by fixed water-holding capacity and require frequent changeouts. The T.R.A.P. breather exhales moisture with every flow cycle, regenerating its water-holding capacity, resulting in longer breather life.

The Donaldson T.R.A.P. breather is manufactured by uniformly coating the walls of a porous network with a thin film of water-absorbing chemicals. The resulting high surface area of absorbent provides rapid removal of water vapor from air while minimizing size and weight. Unlike desiccant breathers, this open porous structure presents minimal air-flow restriction, so fluid flow into and out of the reservoir is not impeded.

Donaldson's T.R.A.P. breathers are available in a variety of configurations, including ABS plastic and epoxy-coated steel constructions; NPT, BSP and bayonet connections; and with and without electronic indicator options to fit a broad range of applications.
