This includes the massive $2.1 billion Elm Road Generating Station under construction in Oak Creek, Wis. Also in Wisconsin, the Wisconsin Public Service Corporation (Green Bay) is constructing Unit 4, a $752 million coal-fired unit that will produce 500 megawatts upon completion in 2008.

The industrial manufacturing industry has 91 projects under construction in the Great Lakes Region totaling more than $5.5 billion.

By state, industrial project spending in the Great Lakes Region is for the most part evenly distributed ranging in order of magnitude from the smallest, Illinois with 44 projects totaling $2.5 billion, to the largest, Kentucky with 32 projects totaling $4.6 billion. One example is Arkema Incorporated (Philadelphia), which is performing multiple expansions at a refrigerant and kynar polymers manufacturing plant in Calvert City, Ky. Arkema is completing a $50 million HFC-32 Refrigerant Unit addition and is expanding the kynar plant as well.

Indiana has the most projects currently under construction with 60.

In addition to the projects currently under construction, Industrial Info has identified more than $124 billion from almost 1,700 projects scheduled to start construction in 2007 or beyond. The Power Industry is planning the largest outlay with 50 percent of the total planned project spending at $61 billion. Alternative fuels jumps to second-largest industry with $20 billion from 110 projects. Most of these projects are grassroot ethanol and biodiesel plants.
