Siemens to Acquire Edge Technology from Pixeom

Siemens recently announced that it is planning to acquire edge technology from Pixeom. Siemens intends to use the technology in its factory automation business unit, which is part of Siemens Digital Industries.

The acquisition is expected to strengthen Siemens’ industrial edge portfolio by adding software components for edge runtime and device management while also driving the expansion of the company’s digital enterprise portfolio and integrating cutting-edge technologies for the digital transformation of industry.

The resulting industrial edge ecosystem will be designed to help companies use production data more efficiently and react more flexibly to changes in conditions. Through the use of apps, data will be analyzed locally at the machine and sent to a higher-level industrial edge management system for global analytics.

A U.S.-based company with sites in San Jose, California, and Udaipur, India, Pixeom employs 81 people worldwide. The transaction is projected to close in the fourth quarter of 2019.
