Textron Marine & Land Systems, an operating unit of Textron Systems, a Textron Inc. company, announced January 10 that it has been appraised at a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI) Maturity Level 3.

CMMI Maturity Level 3 Certification is an internationally recognized process improvement maturity model given to organizations with rigorous and modern product development and services practices. Textron Marine & Land Systems demonstrated industry best practices, cohesively integrating management, engineering and technology activities across its operations. Through the use of CMMI, Textron Marine & Land Systems has established a framework for guiding product development and quality while reducing product costs through reliable, repeatable processes across all departments.

"This designation, which is respected around the world, is an extraordinary achievement that reflects our world-class performance capabilities and the high quality mind-set across our organization,” said Textron Marine & Land Systems general manager Tom Walmsley. “This certification clearly validates the maturity of our engineering and program management processes to assure success on large Acquisition Category (ACAT) I programs like the U.S. Navy’s Ship-to-Shore Connector (SSC) program.”

“Obtaining CMMI Level 3 demonstrates that we, as an organization, are dedicated to applying the program management and engineering excellence required to produce superior designs, products and services for our current and future customers,” said Textron Marine & Land Systems vice president of engineering Robert Foss.

In addition to CMMI Level 3, Textron Marine & Land Systems is a Six Sigma and ISO 9000 certified organization.
