Authorities say a worker at a bus manufacturing plant in
I-C Oklahoma human resources director Red Smith said the 28-year-old man was from out of state and was working for an independent contractor. The accident victim’s name has not been released. I-C Oklahoma, also known as American Transportation, is a subsidiary of Chicago-based International Truck and Engine Corporation.
The victim was in a construction area on the plant's west side when a steel pipe measuring three to four feet in diameter and 20 to 25 feet long that was suspended by a crane landed on him about 1:15 p.m.
Authorities say the man was pronounced dead at the scene with major injuries to his upper torso.
Tulsa County Sheriff's Sergeant Willie Lewis says the sheriff's office and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are investigating the accident.
