Nissan Motor Company Ltd. on January 25 announced its production, sales and export figures for December and the calendar year 2009.
Production
December
Nissan's global production in December was up considerably by 54.0 percent year-on-year to 271,289 units.
Production in Japan increased 29.8% year-on-year to 87,867 units due to increased output of the new Fuga, Serena and export models.
Production outside of Japan saw a significant increase of 69.0% year-on-year to 183,422 units, marking an all-time record for the month of December.
In the United States, production saw a significant increase of 80.9% year-on-year to 38,425 units due to increased demand for all the models led by Altima and Frontier.
In Mexico, production rose year-on-year for the first time in 17 months, rising 37.9% to 31,704 units due to increased demand for Sentra and Tiida.
In the United Kingdom, production saw a significant increase of 89.2% year-on-year to 25,122 units due to increased demand for all the models including Micra (March in Japan) and Qashqai (Dualis in Japan).
In Spain, production saw a significant increase of 109.9% year-on-year to 5,141 units.
In China, production saw a huge increase of 63.3% year-on-year to 60,323 units, marking a record for highest production volume in one month.
Production in other regions was up considerably by 95.7% year-on-year to 22,707 units.
Calendar Year 2009
Nissan's global production in 2009 decreased 19.2% year-on-year to 2,744,562 units.
Production in Japan decreased 30.8% year-on-year to 894,575 units.
Overseas production dropped 12.0% year-on-year to 1,849,987 units.
In the U.S., production decreased 31.6% year-on-year to 372,906 units.
In Mexico, production decreased 21.2% year-on-year to 355,414 units.
In the U.K., production decreased 12.5% year-on-year to 338,150 units.
In Spain, production decreased 66.6% year-on-year to 52,577 units.
Production in China saw a significant increase of 44.3% year-on-year to 547,236 units, reaching a record high for the calendar year.
Production in other regions increased 0.4% year-on-year to 183,704 units.
Sales
December
Global sales increased 23.3% to 314,020 units compared to the previous year.
Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 43,067 units in Japan, up 23.1% year-on-year. Market share was up 0.2 percentage points year-on-year to 11.6%.
In Japan, vehicle registrations in December increased 15.8% year-on-year to 31,198 units due to increased demand for the new Fuga and models eligible for the preferential tax exemption such as Serena, Note and X-Trail.
Domestic sales of mini-vehicles increased 47.6% year-on-year to 11,869 units, due to increased demand for the new Roox, marking an all-time record for the month of December, .
Sales outside of Japan increased 23.3% year-on-year to 270,953 units.
Sales in the U.S. increased 18.2% year-on-year to 73,404 units due to increased demand for Maxima, Versa (Tiida in Japan) and QX56.
In Europe, sales increased 25.8% year-on-year to 46,111 units due to increased demand for Micra, Qashqai and newly introduced Pixo,
China saw a record month in December with sales up a significant 34.3% year-on-year to 72,221 units, setting a record high for the month of December, due to continued demand for Sylphy and Teana.
Sales in other regions increased 24.9% year-on-year to 53,274 units.
Calendar Year 2009
Global sales in 2009 decreased 9.4% year-on-year to 3,358,413 units.
Including mini-vehicles, Nissan sold 599,396 units in Japan, down 11.6% year-on-year. Market share was down 0.3 percentage points year-on-year to 13.0%.
In Japan, Nissan's vehicle registrations in 2009 decreased 13.5% year-on-year to 464,988 units. Nissan's share of the domestic market for the year 2009 was down 0.8 percentage points from the previous year to 15.9%.
Domestic sales of mini-vehicles were down 4.4% from the previous year to 134,408 units.
Sales outside of Japan decreased 8.9% year-on-year to 2,759,017 units.
Sales in the U.S. decreased 19.1% year-on-year to 770,103 units.
In Europe, sales decreased 17.2% year-on-year to 498,027 units
Sales in China increased 38.7% year-on-year to 755,518 units, reaching a record high for the calendar year.
Sales in other regions decreased 21.5% year-on-year to 498,863 units.
Japan Exports
December
Nissan's exports in December saw a significant increase of 63.3% year-on-year to 57,019 units.
Exports to North America saw a huge increase of 225.4% year-on-year to 31,451 units stemming from demand for Murano and Infiniti G series (Skyline in Japan).
Exports to Europe was up considerably by 461.5% year-on-year to 5,789 units due to strong demand for X-Trail and Cube.
Calendar Year 2009
Nissan's exports for the year 2009 decreased 41.0% year-on-year to 458,074 units.
Exports to North America decreased 19.3% year-on-year to 244,871 units.
Exports to Europe decreased 62.8% year-on-year to 35,931 units.
