The California Employee Confidence Index increased by 5.7 points to 48.6 in November, according to the latest Spherion Employment Report, released on December 18. The monthly survey of California workers, conducted by Harris Interactive on behalf of Spherion Corporation, showcases a spike in optimism among workers primarily due to an increase in confidence in the economy and job availability. Another significant change highlighted in this report is that nearly half (49 percent) of all California workers are likely to look for a new job in the next 12 months.
Results from the California Employment Report:
· Fewer workers believe the economy is getting weaker. Specifically, 32 percent vs. 42 percent in October.
· Sixty percent of workers believe there are fewer jobs available in November, a decrease of 14 percentage points from the previous month.
· In November, more workers (49 percent) are likely to look for a new job, showing an increase of eight percentage points from October.
"Following two consecutive months of decline, our latest Employee Confidence Report has ushered in a wave of renewed confidence among California workers," said Brian Veverka, district director for Spherion. "This surge is fueled by more workers expressing confidence in the overall health of the economy and in the number of jobs available in the market. However, the question that remains is whether or not this confidence will remain elevated in the months to come and if the 49 percent of workers reporting that they are likely to look for a new job in the next year will act upon it."
