BAE Systems has unveiled a new set of products to help government and commercial customers manage obsolete parts for aircraft, ships, vehicles and other platforms. These products provide four tiers of service for the company’s widely used Advanced Component Obsolescence Management (AVCOM) tool.
AVCOM is a Web-based, readiness and sustainment tool that allows users to track and plan for the replacement, upgrading, inventory location and ordering of new parts. With a database of more than 15 million parts and access to information on an additional 50 million parts throughout the company’s partnerships, it is a major Air Force tool for obsolescence management. AVCOM also has a growing number of users in other military services, and throughout industry.
“With tiered service, AVCOM can manage a variety of sustainment needs and budgets, from inexpensive, small-scale projects to large-scale, complex requirements,” said Willie Brown, manager of BAE Systems’ obsolescence management team, based in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. “These changes reflect our commitment to helping customers identify and mitigate their obsolescence challenges.”
BAE Systems last week introduced the four service tiers, offered for as low as $2,500 per year, at the 2009 DMSMS and Standardization Conference in Orlando, Florida. Hosted by the Department of Defense, the annual conference attracts professionals from agencies and companies in the expanding field of diminishing manufacturing sources and material shortages.
Prior to the conference, the Defense Standardization Program Office named BAE Systems winner of four DMSMS Achievement Awards: two individual and two team awards. A top recognition in the obsolescence management industry, these awards go to performers recognized by the program office as having “demonstrated outstanding achievement in providing warfighters with increased operational readiness and capability through the proactive management of DMSMS.” This is the third consecutive year BAE Systems has received a team award for program support.
