5,000-pound metal plate kills worker at Texas factory

RP news wires, Noria Corporation

Police say a 53-year-old Arlington, Texas, man is dead after a 5,000-pound metal plate he was cleaning fell on him, killing him, the Associated Press reported.

The accident happened about 9 p.m. on August 4 at the Camtech Precision Manufacturing plant in Euless, a Fort Worth suburb.

Euless police reports say the 13-by-8-foot plate was suspended over 53-year-old Royce Bunkley as he was cleaning it when the plate fell on him.

The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the matter.

The Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported August 5 that the plant makes aircraft engines and engine parts. The newspaper reports that OSHA cited the Euless company in 2007 for four workplace safety violations, including one classified as serious. The issues were resolved later that year.
