Ford Motor Company and the State of New York on June 30 announced an investment in Ford's Buffalo (N.Y.) Stamping Plant to support the launch of two all-new crossover vehicles, the 2007 Ford Edge and Lincoln MKX.

The two vehicles, which will be produced this fall at Oakville Assembly Complex in Oakville, Ontario, are expected to shake up the fast-growing crossover market when they go on sale in November across North America. Both Edge and MKX represent Ford Motor Company’s newest products in the 2007 model lineup.

New York Lt. Gov. Mary Donohue pledged a $1.35 million grant package to support the company’s investment, specifically in facility upgrades and employee training.

“Buffalo Stamping is excited about its role in delivering these new hot products to customers this fall,” said plant manager Dave Buzo. “We enjoy a good relationship with the State of New York and appreciate the ongoing support from Gov. George Pataki and Lt. Gov. Donohue.”

“Ford’s investment will go a long way in improving Buffalo Stamping Plant’s competitive position,” said Lt. Gov. Donohue. “I congratulate this company on its improvements and decision to continue doing business in Hamburg and Erie County.”

Ford Motor Company invested $214 million in Buffalo Stamping to prepare the plant for the new work. The investment included a new Schuler press, 120 dies, 10 new sub-assembly lines and a general facility upgrade to support the new tooling. The parts to be supplied to Oakville include doors, hood, liftgate, floor pan, ladder, cowl top, wheelhouse, dash, side sills, front and rear headers.

The state support includes a Manufacturing Assistance Program capital grant, a training grant as well as sales tax incentive for the plant’s ongoing energy efficiency actions.

Ford's Buffalo Stamping Plant opened in 1950.
