Mars Petcare to close three plants later this year

RP news wires, Noria Corporation

Mars Petcare US on May 7 announced that it will close three of its manufacturing plants later this year.

In a press release, the company stated: “Mars Petcare US is dedicated to providing an enjoyable pet experience for pets and their owners. To achieve this goal, we need to have a manufacturing network grounded in efficiency and long-term sustainability. We constantly monitor and evaluate customer and consumer demand for products and adjust our production to meet their needs. As a result of reduced customer demand in our Exclusive Brands business and subsequent levels of utilization in our network, we will cease operations at the Portland, Ind.; Le Sueur, Minn.; and Allentown, Pa., manufacturing sites in 2009.

“We take seriously the long-term sustainability of our business. The decision to close the Portland, Le Sueur and Allentown facilities was a difficult one and made only after careful review and analysis. We value the contributions of all of our associates and are offering transition assistance to all associates affected by these developments. We recognize the many years of service from these associates, and greatly appreciate their efforts over the years.”
