Nissan to further reduce production by 64,000 units

Nissan Motor Company Ltd. announced an additional production reduction of 64,000 units in Japan in February and March. The company stated that this further reduction is necessary to manage its inventory levels and ensure a balanced production supply, in response to continued declines in the global vehicle sales.

Nissan continues to monitor the volatile automotive market, in order to respond in a quick and effective manner, by implementing the corresponding production adjustments.

The production adjustments are as follows:

1. Production

Assembly Plant
Plant Effective February and March 2009
Tochigi Implement non-operating days and reducing production line speed.
Kyushu
Oppama
Engine Plant
Plant Effective February and March 2009
Yokohama Implement non-operating days according to the production plan.
Iwaki

2. Workforce
Nissan will gradually reduce 500 short-term employees within the first quarter from January through March 2009.
