AK Steel on November 14 presented awards to seven of its suppliers and processors for their outstanding service, value and strategic support of the steelmaker's business plan in 2008. The awards were presented by James L. Wainscott, AK Steel's chairman, president and CEO, during the company's annual Key Supplier and Processor Meeting held in West Chester, Pa.
Companies receiving AK Steel's "Supplier of the Year" award were:
· Applied Industrial Technologies Inc., Cleveland (manufacturing components)
· Carmeuse Natural Chemicals, Pittsburgh (limestone)
· Nyrstar NV, Clarksville, Tenn. (zinc)
· Tempe Services LLC, Springboro, Ohio (technical resources)
· Universal Industrial Supply Inc., Cincinnati (safety products)
Companies receiving AK Steel's "Processor of the Year" award were:
· Most Improved Processor: Kasle Metal Processing, Jeffersonville, Ind. (blanking/inspection)
· Top Quality Performance: Ferrolux Metals Company, Cleveland (slitting/inspection)
"Our 2008 award recipients have gone 'above and beyond' to provide exceptional value to AK Steel," said Wainscott. "They each have delivered a quality product or service to our company this year at a significant cost savings."
During his keynote address at the meeting, Wainscott stressed the importance of the steelmaker and its suppliers and processors working together to "forge ahead" through these difficult economic times.
