Modine Manufacturing Company, a global leader in developing thermal management technologies and solutions for a diversified group of markets, announced recently that its Joplin, Mo., facility reached a significant milestone, producing its 1 millionth Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) cooler for truck, off-highway and heavy duty vehicles.
"These EGR coolers help our customers continue to meet their challenging engine applications, while at the same time reaching the tougher U.S. Environmental Protection Agency standards that keep air cleaner for all of us. We are proud to produce this EGR technology and to reach this milestone so quickly," said Joplin plant manager Curt Spieker.
EGR coolers are used on diesel engines to cool and recirculate a percentage of the exhaust gas in order to promote more effective combustion and remove the nitrogen oxides (NOx) and particulates. This results in cleaner air for the environment. The EGR coolers produced in Joplin are used on International Truck and Engine V-8 and I-6 models and John Deere Engines to meet EPA on-road and off-road emissions regulations.
Employees at the 145,000 square foot Joplin plant began producing EGR coolers in 2003 and now have four production lines manufacturing nine unique models.
"This is a team accomplishment," said Spieker. "We congratulate all our 230 employees who worked hard to achieve this. Our employees' dedication is outstanding."
The Joplin facility is registered to ISO-TS 16949 Quality Standards, which are recognized international standards for quality systems. It is also registered to ISO 14001 Environmental Standards, which are the internationally recognized standards for environmental management systems.
