Magazine lists America's best graduate schools

U.S. News & World Report on Friday announced the publication of the 2007 edition of America's Best Graduate Schools, which hits newsstands on Monday, April 3. America's Best Graduate Schools is the most comprehensive guide to graduate school programs, detailing more than 1,000 programs throughout the country. The guide also contains the exclusive rankings of graduate schools in categories such as business, law, medicine, engineering and education. (See listings below of the top 10 schools in each discipline.)

The rankings will also be available at http://www.usnews.com/ beginning at 12:01 AM ET on Friday, March 31. More searchable data on the rankings and schools is available online.

  Noted changes in the rankings include:
    * In law school rankings - Harvard University dropped to third place
      behind Yale University and Stanford University respectively. Harvard
      placed second last year in the rankings.
    * In education programs - Teachers College, Columbia University rose to
      second place after placing fourth last year.
    * In medical school rankings - Washington University in St. Louis
      dropped to fourth and University of Pennsylvania moved up to third in
      the rankings.

"U.S.News aims to give prospective graduate students a better grasp of what kinds of programs are available and tips on how to enter the job market," said Brian Kelly, executive editor of U.S. News & World Report. "Our reports indicate that hiring is up across the medical, legal, and engineering fields and the job environment for graduate students is strong across the board."

This year's America's Best Graduate Schools also addresses the following topics:

    * Rethinking Legal Education - Many believe that the third year in law
      school lacks practicality and effectiveness in preparing the legal
      minds of tomorrow. U.S.News investigates the possibility of changing
      the structure of legal education.
    * Finding Female M.B.A.'s - Women remain scarce at M.B.A. programs and
      the paradox has not escaped the notice of top business schools.
      U.S.News explores how the programs are recruiting and retaining more
      women.
