Manufacturing strategists and CFOs are invited by Boothroyd Dewhurst Inc. to a free Webinar titled “How to Resurrect U.S. Manufacturing with Systematic DFMA Deployment,” on May 7 from 11 a.m. to 12 noon. EDT. Registration is at https://www.gotomeeting.com/register/256299842.

The 40-minute Webinar is presented by Mike Shipulski, Ph.D., director of engineering at Hypertherm Inc., who implemented a Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DFMA) program at his own company with outstanding results, including a 600 percent improvement in profit-per-square-foot of factory floor space and substantial market share gains.

“American companies have lost their way,” says Shipulski. “But we can resurrect manufacturing with a back-to-basics approach to create sustainable economic growth.” Using a product design strategy like DFMA can bring significant downstream savings to all types of industries, such as part count reduction of 50 percent, labor time reduction of 60 percent and cost savings of 50 percent, he notes. But to achieve such results, the tools must be implemented in a systematic way that addresses infrastructure, organization and business processes as well as product redesign.

Shipulski will present metrics resulting from Hypertherm’s own five-year experience with DFMA deployment, and then demonstrate the steps needed to achieve similar results. “Companies don’t know how to start or how to put all the pieces into place,” he says. “This Webinar provides a roadmap – combining lean, Six Sigma and DFMA – to the future competitive success of American companies. Savings are possible with your product.”

The discussion will cover goal setting, project selection and planning, resource allocation, project execution and design review.

“Hypertherm’s data strongly demonstrate the value of systematically implementing DFMA to achieve measurable results across an enterprise,” says Nick Dewhurst, executive vice president of Boothroyd Dewhurst. “This approach can be applied to virtually any industry or product and is a valuable tool for identifying – and removing – roadblocks to profitability.”

About Boothroyd Dewhurst Inc.
Boothroyd Dewhurst Inc., was the first company to commercialize design for manufacture and assembly (DFMA) methodologies and software tools, which make it possible to evaluate, estimate, and reduce the manufacturing cost of a product in the design phase through product simplification and cost estimation. Hundreds of Fortune 1000 companies, including Dell, John Deere, Harley-Davidson and Whirlpool, use DFMA to cut the costs of their manufactured products and achieve design innovation in their markets. The company was founded in 1983 and received the National Medal of Technology Award in 1991.
