Kellogg donates one day of production to food relief

RP news wires, Noria Corporation

Kellogg Company is announcing on April 24 at its annual meeting of shareowners that it is donating an entire day's worth of cereal production to Feeding America, the nation's leading hunger relief food-bank network. The donation of 3.5 million pounds of cereal, worth approximately $10 million, amounts to more than 55 million cereal servings. Cereals to be donated include popular brands such as Kellogg's Rice Krispies, Kellogg's Raisin Bran, Product 19 and Crispix.

The donation will provide critical sustenance for food banks across the country as they are challenged to keep up with rising demand. Network agencies are seeing an average increase of 30 percent in the need for food assistance.

"Kellogg Company's donation of a full day's production of cereal to our food banks is tremendous news. Right now one in eight Americans are struggling with hunger and it is critical that we keep our food banks well stocked. Cereal is especially needed because it is convenient, shelf-stable and nutritious," said Vicki Escarra, president and CEO of Feeding America. "Kellogg Company has been a long-time and significant donor, providing us with both substantial funding and millions of pounds of food. They are a tremendous example of corporate America stepping forward to help the nation in a time of great need."

"This is an unprecedented donation for Kellogg Company," said David Mackay, president and CEO, Kellogg Company. "We wanted to dig a little deeper to help those Americans struggling to put food on their tables during these tough economic times and encourage others to give if they can as well."

Kellogg is also encouraging consumers to join them in the fight against hunger. Beginning June 17, consumers can visit www.kelloggs.com/feedingamerica to help feed a family in need as well as help fill their own pantry. For every donation of $5 or more to Feeding America, Kellogg will give consumers $5 in coupons toward their next purchase of Kellogg's cereal.

Kellogg Company has been a committed donor to Feeding America since they were founded. Over the past 10 years, Kellogg has donated more than 224 million pounds of food to Feeding America. Kellogg has contributed more than $40 million in cash and $120 million in product to various charitable organizations around the world over the last five years.
