Tom Littlejohn, president of Local 1268, is thrilled that Chrysler's decided to build three new 30 mpg crossover vehicles at the Belvidere plant in Illinois. While many locals lose membership, Chrysler's fuel-efficient cross-overs helped move membership at 1268 from 1,700 to 6,500.

At General Motors' new environmentally friendly, LEED Gold-certified Delta Assembly Plant, UAW regional director Duane Zuckschwerdt advocates saving jobs through energy independence.
