Dow Corning, a world leader in silicones, silicon-based technology and innovation, has been named one of America’s Safest Companies by EHS Today. Twelve companies were selected for the 2010 honor.
EHS Today, a magazine dedicated to management of risk in the workplace and environment, created the award in 2002 to recognize companies for innovative safety solutions within their operations. It is open to all American companies, regardless of size or industry.
According to Sandy Smith, executive editor of EHS Today, “The winning companies empower their employees to play an active role in corporate safety culture; offer safety education through rigorous training programs or corporate universities; consider OSHA compliance as a starting point; and invest in safety at every level.”
At Dow Corning, safety is one of the core values that drive the company’s business decisions. Dow Corning’s comprehensive safety practices are focused on preventing accidents, eliminating their root causes, and managing chemicals responsibly throughout their life cycles.
“We like to think that all our employees are safety professionals – as we infuse both the skills and responsibilities in each of them to ensure the proper application of safety principles for every operation, every day,” said Mike Snyder, global director of corporate safety, industrial hygiene and loss prevention, Dow Corning Corporation.
Dow Corning and other honorees on the America’s Safest Companies list were recognized at an award ceremony on October 4, as part of the National Safety Council’s Annual Conference in San Diego, Calif.
“Having received this recognition, we are energized to continue the hard work in executing our safety strategy,” said Snyder. “As a recognized safety leader, we will maintain the vigilance and safe operating discipline needed to deliver against our plan.
“We are honored by this recognition, but humbled with the responsibility of being an America’s Safest Company award winner – ensuring we remain a highly reliable organization in safety.”
