Honeywell has been selected to receive the prestigious 2009 Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award for its Federal Manufacturing & Technologies. The award is the nation's highest honor for innovation and performance excellence.

Honeywell FM&T manages and operates the National Nuclear Security Administration facilities in Kansas City, Mo., and Albuquerque, N.M., under contract for the Department of Energy.

"This is a very proud moment for Honeywell," said Honeywell chairman and chief executive officer Dave Cote. "Our employees are committed to doing a superb job every day for our customers in quality, delivery, value and technology. Receiving the highest honor for organizational innovation and performance excellence is validation of this work. I congratulate Honeywell's employees at our FM&T facilities for their hard work and high standards."

"The Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award is a great honor for both Honeywell and the Department of Energy," said Tony Brancato, president, Honeywell Federal Manufacturing and Technologies. "We use the Baldrige criteria to show our commitment to the customer as we continue to integrate the Honeywell Operating System for continuous improvement and validate the Management Assurance System we use to run our business. The Honeywell Operating System helped us raise our manufacturing, quality and purchased product delivery performance while reducing the cost of operations."

Honeywell FM&T submitted its application in May, which was assessed by a group of Malcolm Baldrige National Quality examiners. In October, a team of examiners interviewed over 300 Honeywell employees to verify information in the application and identify Honeywell's strengths and opportunities for improvement in its performance excellence journey. Of applicants who applied for the 2009 award, Honeywell FM&T was the only manufacturing organization to receive the award.

Each year, companies and organizations striving for excellence pursue the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award as a measure of their efforts and continuously improve their quality and productivity. Companies are examined in seven categories: leadership; strategic planning; customer focus; measurement, analysis, and improvement of organization performance; workforce focus; process management; and results.

Honeywell FM&T and the other four recipients of the 2009 Baldrige Award will be honored at a ceremony in Washington, D.C., next year.
