Linde North America’s carbon dioxide plant in Corpus Christi, Texas, has received a safety award from Contractor Safety Council (CSC) of the Coastal Bend Inc.

Linde North America is a member of The Linde Group, a world-leading gases and engineering company. CSC is an organization that delivers training and site specific job safety orientation to production facilities in the Corpus Christi area.

The 2008 safety award was presented to Linde’s Corpus Christi plant for having an OSHA safety record of less than one accident and no lost time recordable for the entire year. The purpose of the award is to recognize and promote safety and awareness by chemical companies in the area for the care and safety of employees and communities.

David Henao, area supply manager, said, “The plant team and I are truly honored and proud to receive this award. It recognizes our day-to-day safety efforts and our total commitment to the safety of our employees and our customers.”

The Corpus Christi plant, in operation since 1979, produces 275 tons per day of carbon dioxide. The CO2 is trucked to food processors, carbonated beverage producers, welding fabricators and oilfield operators in Texas, Louisiana and New Mexico. The plant employs 18 people.

Warren Arenz, head of safety, health, environment and quality for Linde North America, said, “The entire employee team at the Corpus Christi plant is to be congratulated for their diligence in maintaining a safe environment. Their performance exemplifies Linde’s best in class processes in safety, health, environment and security which are being well executed at the plant level.”

The Linde Group is a leading gases and engineering company with almost 52,000 employees working in around 100 countries worldwide. In the 2008 financial year, it achieved sales of EUR 12.7 billion (USD 15.9 billion).
