When performing an offline test on a motor, it is very important to verify that all connections have a proper contact. If you connect a test lead to a motor lead terminal, you must ensure there is good contact between the jaws of the lead and the terminal. These connections are often covered with debris, oil, dirt, etc. In other cases, the testing location is covered in insulating material which must be removed prior to testing. Insulating material that has been removed can often leave residue, such as glue residue, behind that is not visible. A good practice is to always thoroughly clean the spot where the test leads will be connected.
