Boeing awards Eaton coupling, hose contracts for 787

Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation announced November 20 that it has been selected by The Boeing Company to provide quick-disconnect coupling products and hose products for the new 787 Dreamliner commercial aircraft. The potential value of the contract award is estimated at more than $88 million over the life of the program.

The Eaton Aeroquip brand quick-disconnect coupling and hoses were selected by Boeing to support the new aircraft’s Integrated Cooling System (ICS) and Power Equipment Cooling System (PECS). These systems provide efficient liquid cooled thermal management across an array of electrical systems and instruments within the platform.

"The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a new aircraft designed for the future of commercial aviation, provides greater operational efficiencies to the airlines and a more comfortable flying environment for passengers,” said Bradley Morton, Eaton vice president and president - Aerospace Operations. “Eaton's contributions to the ICS and PECS systems are one more example of our ability to provide our key customers with state-of-the-art technology that enhances performance, improves reliability and reduces overall cost of ownership."

The 787 Dreamliner will use 20 percent less fuel than today's airplanes of comparable size, provide airlines with up to 45 percent more cargo revenue capacity and present passengers with ground-breaking innovations including an improved interior environment, wider seats and aisles, larger windows and other benefits. The 787's lightweight composite structure makes many of these advances possible.

The 787 Dreamliner has accumulated 455 orders and commitments from 36 airlines and leasing customers around the world. Development of the 787 is on schedule for the first flight in 2007 and entry into service in 2008.
