Ford Assembly Plant Builds 10 Millionth Mustang

The Ford assembly plant in Flat Rock, Michigan, recently celebrated production of the company's 10 millionth Mustang. The 2019 Wimbledon White GT V8 convertible is the same color and model as the first serialized Mustang produced in 1964. 

Ford marked the milestone with celebrations at both its headquarters in Dearborn, Michigan, and the Flat Rock assembly plant, including flyovers from three World War II-era P-51 Mustang fighter planes and Mustangs from over five decades parading from Dearborn to Flat Rock, where the Mustang currently is manufactured.

"Mustang is the heart and soul of this company and a favorite around the world," said Jim Farley, president of global markets at Ford Motor Co. "I get the same thrill seeing a Mustang roll down a street in Detroit, London or Beijing that I felt when I bought my first car – a 1966 Mustang coupe that I drove across the country as a teenager."

During its 54-year production history, the Ford Mustang has been built in San Jose, California; Metuchen, New Jersey; and the original production facility in Dearborn. Now in its sixth generation, the vehicle is America's best-selling sports car over the last 50 years, based on analysis of 1966-2018 new vehicle registrations.
