Subaru recently announced that its automotive plant in Lafayette, Indiana, has officially begun production of the new Ascent SUV. Adding the vehicle to the plant's production mix signifies the addition of approximately 200 jobs and $140 million in equipment and expansion investments.

The Ascent joins three other Subaru models manufactured at the plant: Outback, Legacy and Impreza. With the addition of the Ascent, Subaru of Indiana Automotive (SIA) will produce approximately 400,000 vehicles annually. Since the plant began production in September 1989, SIA associates have built more than 5 million vehicles.

"The Subaru Ascent is a great addition to our production line-up," said Tom Easterday, senior executive vice president of SIA. "Production of this outstanding new family vehicle allowed us to create hundreds of new jobs at SIA and also at our suppliers in Indiana and across the country."

Over the past five years, SIA has seen substantial growth, adding more than 2,000 associates and investing nearly $1.5 billion. The positive economic impact of this growth has been supported by Subaru's investment to increase the plant's production capacity to prepare for Ascent and Impreza production.

The new 2019 Subaru Ascent will be available for sale to consumers in mid-2018.
