General Motors (GM) is adding a third shift and more than 500 hourly and salaried jobs at its assembly plant in Lansing, Michigan, to meet forecasted market demand for the 2016 Chevrolet Camaro.

The addition of a third shift will increase the plant's workforce to approximately 2,300 when hiring is completed. Third shift hiring is currently underway at the plant. The shift is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2016.

"This is the result of the award-winning vehicles Lansing Grand River produces and the confidence GM has in our team to build world-class quality for our customers," said Mike Trevorrow, Lansing regional plant manager.

Built in 2001, Lansing Grand River (LGR) is GM's second-newest U.S. assembly plant. It manufactures the Camaro, the Cadillac ATS and CTS as well as their V-series performance versions on a single production line.

"This is an exciting time at LGR," said Mike Green, United Automobile Workers (UAW) local 652 president. "We just added the Chevrolet Camaro to our vehicle lineup, and now we get to expand the UAW-GM family, which will bring the plant to full capacity. What a great way to start the New Year!"
