"Ohio's job losses echo those seen in Pennsylvania, Michigan and New York," said MNI president Tom Dubin. "Rust Belt manufacturers continue to be lured by cheaper labor costs overseas, particularly in China, which is increasingly capable of handling greater production capacity."
Manufacturers' News reports Ohio is now home to 21,250 manufacturing companies employing 1,095,594 workers. MNI's survey profiles both large and small Ohio manufacturers, including startup companies with just a few employees.
MNI's regional study shows Ohio ranks third in the nation by number of manufacturing jobs, accounting for 5.8 percent of the nation's industrial employment. Ohio represents 20 percent of the Midwest's manufacturing companies and jobs.
