NACCO Materials Handling Group (NMHG), makers of Hyster and Yale lift trucks, recently received the prestigious Carolina Star Safety Award at a ceremony hosted by the North Carolina Department of Labor.

In order to qualify for the award, the company had to pass an initial assessment to prove that its facilities are a safe, healthy and productive work environment. The six elements that constitute the Carolina Star’s SEE and ACT requirements are statistics, everyone’s commitment, employee involvement, analyze hazards, control risks and training.

As the latest recipient of the Carolina Star Safety Award, NMHG joins a select group of 135 North Carolina sites.

“NMHG would like to express our gratitude to the North Carolina Department of Labor and Pitt County Chamber of Commerce,” said John Gardiner, NMHG’s general manager Americas Manufacturing. “We are incredibly honored and humbled to be named a Carolina Star Safety Award recipient and join the ranks of Kimberly-Clarke, Pfizer, Frito-Lay and Georgia Pacific, to name a few. It has been a wonderful year of safety milestones for our company, and we couldn’t have done it without our dedicated employees.”

In addition to receiving the Carolina Star Safety Award at the ceremony, NMHG was honored with the North Carolina Department of Labor Million-Hour Safety Award and Gold Safety Award for the seventh consecutive year.

Million-Hour Safety Awards are given to firms that accumulate 1 million employee hours with no case of injury or illness involving days away from work. Last year, NMHG reached 3 million hours without a lost time accident in its Greenville, N.C., facility. Gold Safety Awards include cases of days away from work, restricted activity or job transfer.

A leader in the lift truck industry, NMHG designs, engineers, manufactures, sells and services a comprehensive line of lift trucks and aftermarket parts marketed globally under the Hyster and Yale brand names. Headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio, NMHG employs approximately 4,500 people worldwide and is a wholly owned subsidiary of NACCO Industries, Inc.
