CAPS Research updated its highly regarded Cross-Industry Metric Report of Standard Benchmarks in November 2010. This report includes key performance indicators for different industry sectors including purchasing operating expense, training spend, diversity spend, total spend as a percent of revenue, supply management organization operating costs, purchase order cycle times and employee retention.

The cross-industry report, published twice-yearly, includes data provided by more than 240 different companies representing 18 different industry sectors on 20 commonly referenced benchmarks.

In May 2010 the average operating expense per supply management employee was reported as $122,890 compared to $119,185 reported in November 2010. The reduction, although not a significant change from a cross-industry perspective, is a result of data provided by additional companies not represented in the May report.
