"This wonderful recognition from Working Mother celebrates the special work culture that is SC Johnson," said Fisk Johnson, chairman and CEO of SC Johnson. "We work hard at creating a great, flexible work environment. By doing so, all of the people at SC Johnson, not just working parents, can focus on their family and the needs of the business. On behalf of SC Johnson and as a working parent myself, I applaud all the companies making an important difference for families everywhere."
In bestowing this year's top honors, Working Mother gave particular weight to the areas of flexible scheduling and leave time for new parents. The magazine also took into consideration family-friendly programs, child care, company culture, advancement of women and compensation.
SC Johnson recently broke ground on an expansion project at the company's ChildcareLearningCenter - one of the nation's first childcare centers in 1985 for the exclusive use of its employees and their families. The addition is 9,600 square feet and will add 10 new classrooms and include a sunroom for reading and group activities and a conference room for parent teacher conferences. The building is scheduled to open in January 2007 and will continue to ensure that employees' children will not have to be placed on a waiting list. In 2003, the Center underwent its first major expansion and currently serves over 300 children.
"SC Johnson is exceptional for its continuing commitment to working mothers, and we salute them for making the 100 Best for the 18th time," said Carol Evans, CEO of Working Mother Media. "Every year we see companies upping the ante, establishing new paradigms for quality of life among their employees and redefining the status quo for workplaces across the country. Among the many worthy entrants, the winners really set the gold standard."
"It's rewarding to see the great programs we have in place working to help SC Johnson's employees be their best at home and at work," said Gayle P. Kosterman, SC Johnson's executive vice president for worldwide human resources.
