RedShift Systems Inc., the leader in optical thermal imaging, on July 26 named Charles (Chip) Marshall as its chief operating officer. Marshall is an expert in commercializing technologies and launching them into volume production.

Leveraging his track record of developing innovative infrared imaging products and launching low-cost consumer products, Marshall will accelerate the commercial success of RedShift’s Thermal Light Valve technology.

Prior to joining RedShift Systems, he served as COO at Aura Communications Inc., a fabless semiconductor company developing wireless system-on-chip ASICs. He successfully led the production startup and introduction of new products into the hyper-competitive global consumer electronics market.

Before Aura Communications, Marshall served as director of Uncooled Infrared Products at Lockheed Martin Imaging Systems, now a division of BAE Systems, where he directed the company’s uncooled infrared business area. He established and led the engineering team that designed and introduced the microbolometer-based product line that set the industry standard for technical innovation and performance.

RedShift Systems’ disruptive Thermal Light Valve technology enables thermal imaging cameras to be built with standard (CMOS) imaging sensors and electronics at costs far lower than previously attainable. In the past, the high cost of thermal imaging cameras made them inaccessible to 95 percent of potential users in today’s $2 billion thermal imaging market. RedShift’s Thermal Light Valve technology lays the foundation for the next stage of growth in new and existing markets by providing high-quality optical thermal imaging cameras at very low cost. Targeted markets include security, firefighting, first responder, automotive, industrial thermography, and other markets where the high cost of imagers has prevented broad market penetration.

“Chip provides us with operational expertise that supports our aggressive growth and market expansion plans for driving optical thermal imaging toward universal deployment,’’ said Matthias Wagner, CEO at RedShift Systems. “Chip has unique experience leading teams that bring complex technology to commercialization in the thermal imaging market as well as in scaling products in cost-competitive consumer markets."

“RedShift’s technology is well-positioned to deliver affordable thermal imaging solutions to underserved markets where thermal vision is required,” said Marshall. “I am delighted to join RedShift’s highly-focused team and to be at the leading edge of the next generation of IR imagers designed for low cost, high volume markets."
