Fiskars, the world’s No. 1 scissors brand, has achieved an extraordinary milestone – the company celebrated its 360th year of business in October. What began in 1649 as a small ironworks on the banks of the Fiskars River in Finland is now a global consumer products company with operations in 21 countries.
"This is truly a once-in-a-lifetime event – an opportunity few companies ever get to experience," said Paul Tonnesen, president of Fiskars Americas. "I want to thank the generations of employees for contributing their time and labor to this effort. Without their commitment to quality, hard work and loyalty throughout the years, none of this would be possible. This milestone is a true testament to the people of this company."
A leading global supplier of consumer products for the home, garden and outdoors, Fiskars is most well known for its iconic orange-handled scissors. The scissors are part of the permanent design collection in the Museum of Modern Art in New York as well as the Philadelphia Museum of Art, and nearly one billion pairs have been sold worldwide since their creation in 1967. The company’s products have also won countless design and ergonomic awards including the Good Design award, the Reddot award and Ease-of-Use Commendations from the Arthritis Foundation.
