The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE), a member and accredited standards developer of the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), has published ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 171-2008, Method of Testing Seismic Restraint Devices for HVAC&R Equipment.

This new standard provides procedures to calculate the resistance of seismic restraints for HVAC&R equipment. Manufacturers of vibration isolators, seismic restraint vendors and strut channels will be able to use the standard to test their products’ resistance to earthquake conditions, while engineers will need it as a reference in specifications.
