Feds give landmark status to Hartford’s Colt complex

Federal officials on October 14 officially gave national historic landmark status to the 150-year-old Colt firearms factory complex – topped by its blue onion-shaped dome – and the surrounding Coltsville support and employee housing area that the Colt Patent Fire Arms Manufacturing Company began constructing in 1855 in Hartford, Conn.

Coltsville is where Samuel Colt created the revolver that revolutionized firearms by eliminating the need to reload until five or six shots had been fired.
