RP captures five more awards

Reliable Plant magazine recently won five awards for publication excellence from the business press industry.

Reliable Plant earned two awards in the 30th annual American Society for Business Publication Editors competition.

Reliable Plant competed in ASBPE's West Region (covering 19 states) and against magazines with circulations of less than 80,000. A record total of more than 2,600 editorial and design entries, from issues published in 2007, were considered for awards in this year's competition. After five months of judging, approximately 400 entries were cited for honors. Contest judges are experienced business press executives, editors, designers, consultants and academicians.

Arnold

Reliable Plant editor Paul V. Arnold won an award in the case history category for his cover story on reliability excellence at Alcoa's Warrick Power Plant in Indiana (November/December 2007 issue). This marks the sixth year in a row that Arnold has been honored in the case history category. It also marks his 16th overall ASBPE award.

Troyer

Drew Troyer garnered Reliable Plant's other award, winning West Region honors in the staff-written regular column category for his Exponent series. This is the third award for Troyer; he previously won ASBPE column awards in 2003 and 2006.

Reliable Plant added to its haul by winning three awards, including a coveted Grand Award, in the 20th annual Writing That Works "Awards for Publication Excellence" (APEX) international publishing competition.

Awards were based on excellence in graphic design, editorial content and the ability to achieve overall communications excellence. Contest judges are experienced communications executives, editors, publishers and consultants. A total of 4,479 entries - from the business press; public relations; and corporate, government and professional organization communications fields - were considered for honors this year. Just 30 percent of nominees earned an award in one of the 110 competition categories. Less than 3 percent of nominees (a total of 120) received a Grand Award.

The Reliable Plant Web site, www.reliableplant.com, was one of six winners of a Grand Award in the for-profit Web sites category. The site also won a Grand Award in this category last year. A total of 309 Web and intranet sites received consideration this time around.

Reliable Plant also won an award for overall excellence in writing in the magazines and journals category. And, Arnold won in the feature writing category for his cover story on reliability and change at the Hillerich & Bradsby Company in Kentucky (May/June 2007 issue).

Reliable Plant, which debuted in July 2005, has now won 16 awards in its first three years of publication.
