ANSI/NAM network on chem regulation to host meeting

American National Standards Institute

The ANSI/NAM Network on Chemical Regulation, in conjunction with Keller and Heckman, will be hosting a REACH question and answer teleconference on Thursday, August 28.

REACH – Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals – is a European Union Regulation that took effect on June 1, 2007. Under the legislation, manufacturers worldwide are required to register chemical substances exported to the European Union in quantities of one or more tons per year. Companies have the opportunity to participate in a simplified “pre-registration” process at no cost, and to receive permission fully register at a later date. The pre-registration period ends on December 30, 2008.

The teleconference will address a diverse array of REACH-related topics, including:

·        the status of manufactured objects as articles;

·        the online pre-registration process;

·        the Only Representative (OR) mechanism;

·        definition of importers under REACH;

·        the phase-in status of substances;

·        the Substance Information Exchange Forum (SIEF) and pre-consortia/consortia participation;

·        the proposed draft Candidate list substances; and more.

Teleconference participants may submit questions ahead of time or pose them during the call. To submit a question for discussion, e-mail it to chemicals@ansi.org by August 18. Participation is free of charge, and registration is not required.
