During a joint press briefing at the Terre Haute Economic Development Corporation, CertainTeed officials joined Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels to announce the company will build the 300,000 square foot facility on a 115-acre parcel in the Vigo County Industrial Park. The facility is expected to employ 100 people when it is completed in the second half of 2007 and up to 145 when it is at full capacity.
Currently, CertainTeed operates fiber cement manufacturing facilities in Roaring River, N.C., and White City, Ore.
"The strong growth and market acceptance of our fiber cement product line necessitated the need for a new plant, strategically located in the Central United States," says Peter Dachowski, president and CEO of CertainTeed Corporation. "Terre Haute is the perfect location because it allows us to service our Central U.S. customers more effectively while tapping into the State's highly skilled workforce."
When completed, the plant will manufacture CertainTeed's popular WeatherBoards line of fiber cement siding.
Ground will be broken on the facility in late spring 2006 with product coming off the manufacturing line in the second half of 2007. This plant will be CertainTeed's largest fiber cement production facility and second greenfield facility - the other, in White City, Ore., was built in 1998.
"This plant is truly a culmination of hard work and dedication from many of our employees," says Altmansberger. "They have worked hard to build this business and prove to the building industry that we are a serious force in the fiber cement cladding market. The Terre Haute facility signals a new era of growth for CertainTeed and I am proud of each of my employees who helped us reach this pinnacle."
