For more than 25 years, Robert Monczka, Ph.D., C.P.M., has researched, taught and consulted about strategic purchasing/sourcing and supply management strategies and implementation processes. For his work and dedication to the profession, the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) has awarded Monczka the J. Shipman Gold Medal Award – the profession's highest honor. Monczka accepted the award at ISM's 93rd International Conference and Educational Exhibit in St. Louis.
Monczka currently serves as director, strategic sourcing and supply chain strategy research at CAPS Research, research professor of supply chain management in the W.P. Carey School of Business at Arizona State University (ASU) and professor emeritus at his alma mater, Michigan State University (MSU).
Throughout the span of his career, Monczka has led the Global Procurement and Supply Chain Benchmarking Initiative at MSU, and has been the principal investigator on two major National Science Foundation projects. He has been a consultant to numerous major corporations headquartered domestically and globally, and has worked with more than 150 firms in various capacities. Additionally, he has researched and published more than 100 articles and books in the field of sourcing and supply management.

He is always a willing contributor to the association giving presentations and advice whenever he is asked. Many of today's practitioners were Bob's students over the years.”
ISM joins the members of the 2007-2008 J. Shipman Gold Medal Award Committee – Thomas H. Slaight, Aaron D. Dent, Timothy R. Fiore, Bradley J. Holcomb and David L. Sorensen – in congratulating Robert Monczka on this prestigious award. The J. Shipman Gold Medal Award was created by the Purchasing Management Association of New York in 1931 to honor Johnson Shipman, a pioneer in the profession.
