International Flooring and Protective Coatings Inc. recently completed removal of the existing non-skid flooring from the flight deck of the USS Theodore Roosevelt using state-of-art, engineered equipment. IFPC’s water jetting machinery outperformed existing competitive standards, enabling a process efficiency which ultimately improved work flow and significantly reduced costs.

“IFPC finished almost three weeks ahead of schedule,” stated Jason Robinson, subcontract coordinator for Northrop Grumman.

The company used 40,000 psi ultra-high pressure from specially engineered water jetting equipment to take up the existing non-skid flooring so that engineers could inspect the steel deck for cracks and stress on the welds and seams. Once the base flooring was secured, IFPC applied a primer coat and a temporary non-skid coating which will ultimately be replaced once the Roosevelt comes out of the Northrop Grumman shipyard in Newport News, Va. At that time, the temporary flooring will be replaced with a permanent non-skid system.

International Flooring and Protective Coatings is the largest distributor of flooring, protective coatings, stone and granite for commercial, industrial and government clients on the Eastern Seaboard. The company also offers ultra-high-pressure water jetting and surface decontamination services. Headquartered in Norfolk, Va., IFPC’s mission is to distribute and install the “best-fit” flooring and surface solution for clients in the commercial, residential, industrial, governmental, marine and hospitality industries.

Steve Solomon, co-owner and COO, states “We attribute our success to a consistent commitment and adherence to superior client service – pure and simple. In concrete terms, this means offering advanced technologies, products and engineering to our clients, specifically the U.S. military. At IFPC, we are an agile team with a strong work ethic, built on solid industry knowledge and experience. This new equipment rockets us to the forefront of our industry’s product and service offerings. In fact, our next project is the USS Leyte Gulf’s flight deck. Our team is excited to offer this technology to all types of industries.”
