Oshkosh gets $82.6 million contract from U.S. Army

Oshkosh Defense, a division of Oshkosh Corporation, has been awarded a contract valued at more than $82.6 million with the U.S. Army Tank-Automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM) to recapitalize 292 Heavy Equipment Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT) A4s.

Through Oshkosh’s recapitalization program, HEMTT A0 and HEMTT A2 variants will be returned to Oshkosh, stripped to the frame rails and completely rebuilt to meet the specifications of the new HEMTT A4. Improvements include a fully air-conditioned and armor-ready cab, more powerful drivetrain, improved suspension, safety improvements and other structural changes to make installation of add-on-armor in the field quicker and easier.

The HEMTT was first introduced in 1985 and is the backbone for the U.S. Army’s logistics fleet. In February, Oshkosh and senior leaders of TACOM, celebrated the production of the 20,000th HEMTT. It has helped keep the Army on the move during major conflicts such as Operations Desert Storm and Iraqi Freedom by fulfilling critical resupply missions in its different configurations, including fuel servicing, load handling system (LHS) and cargo variants.

Oshkosh’s work on the HEMTT A4 recap is expected to be completed by April 2009.
