Ernest H. Preeg retired from a career as a foreign service officer specializing in international trade, finance, and economic development. He was a member of U.S. delegations to the Kennedy and Uruguay Rounds of trade negotiations, and served as Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for International Finance and Development, Chief Economist of the U.S. Agency for International Development, and White House Executive Director of the Economic Policy Group. He also served as the American Ambassador to Haiti.
