Is flexible manufacturing the new black?

The big auto industry story is reported piecemeal – the unveiling of General Motors Corporation’s new electric-drive concept vehicle, Chrysler Group’s continued hawking of its minivan and Ford Motor Company’s decision to not abandon six of its manufacturing facilities in Michigan.

These are all glimpses of a wider canvas on which the future of the auto industry is now being painted. And it has to do with one word: flexibility.
