Vice President Biden to visit UQM Technologies manufacturing plant

UQM Technologies Inc., a developer of alternative energy technologies, announced April 29 that the Vice President of the United States, Joe Biden, will be speaking at the company's new manufacturing facility on Friday, April 30. Also speaking at the event will be UQM Technologies’ president and chief executive officer, William G. Rankin, Congresswoman Betsy Markey and Colorado Governor Bill Ritter. Vice President Biden will highlight the positive impact the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act has had on small businesses, by featuring UQM's technology leadership in electric propulsion systems, generators and electronic products for the developing markets for all-electric and hybrid-electric vehicles.

"We are honored to have Vice President Biden speak at our facility to highlight our company's accomplishments and leadership role in developing advanced electric propulsion systems. Our partnership with the U.S. Government to accelerate the introduction of components for electric drive vehicles and to establish the manufacturing infrastructure necessary to support the anticipated growth in the numbers of these vehicles on American roads is having a beneficial impact on our company and the creation of jobs in the clean vehicle industry," said Rankin.

Several vehicles incorporating UQM products will be showcased at the event including CODA Automotive's all-electric passenger sedan, an all-electric 35-foot transit bus from Proterra Inc., all-electric medium-duty trucks from ZeroTruck and Electric Vehicles International, a hybrid-electric Dodge Caliber from FEV Inc., and a hybrid-electric utility truck presented by Eaton Corporation. Also on display will be a transaxle developed by UQM's marketing partner BorgWarner.

UQM Technologies Inc. is a developer and manufacturer of power dense, high efficiency electric motors, generators and power electronic controllers for the automotive, aerospace, military and industrial markets. A major emphasis of the company is developing products for the alternative energy technologies sector including propulsion systems for electric, hybrid electric, plug-in hybrid electric and fuel cell electric vehicles, under-the-hood power accessories and other vehicle auxiliaries and distributed power generation applications. The company's headquarters, engineering and product development center, and motor manufacturing operation are located in Frederick, Colo.
