Duke Energy has named Jim Stanley senior vice president of power delivery for the company's U.S. operations, effective June 1. The position is responsible for the electric power transmission and distribution systems in Duke Energy's five-state utility service area.

Stanley succeeds Sandra Meyer, who is retiring in May. Stanley currently serves as president of Duke Energy Indiana. The company has not yet named a replacement for his position, which he has held since November 2006.

Prior to becoming the company's Indiana president, Stanley served as Duke Energy's vice president of Midwest field operations. In that role, he was responsible for the company's Midwest power delivery system, including power grid maintenance and storm response. With more than 30 years with the company, he has served as a district and regional manager, general manager of employee and union relations, general manager of power transmission and distribution projects, and vice president of transmission and distribution construction and maintenance.

"Jim has deep roots in the electric industry," said James Turner, president and chief operating officer of Duke Energy's Franchised Electric & Gas businesses. "His strong combination of field and management experience brings ideal credentials to this job. As our Indiana president, he led the organization through high-profile projects and initiatives. We know the importance of that leadership and we will fill the Indiana president's position soon."

Duke Energy is one of the largest electric power holding companies in the United States. Its regulated utility operations serve approximately 4 million customers located in five states in the Southeast and Midwest, representing a population of approximately 11 million people. Its commercial power and international business segments own and operate diverse power generation assets in North America and Latin America, including a growing portfolio of renewable energy assets in the United States.
