The three E's of an effective motor reliability program

Though many facilities have an established reliability program, not all have a successful motor reliability program. When establishing a motor reliability program for the first time or making a change to an existing program, it is important to consider focusing your effort on the following:

Equipment – Take time to determine the equipment you need and what the manufacturers offer in order to help you reach your program goals (i.e., software, electrical test equipment, mechanical test equipment, support, network, etc.).

Efficiency – In order to have an efficient, successful program you must have efficient personnel and equipment. Creating a group that works well together, understands the test equipment and software, and are proficient at using the test equipment is essential to achieving efficiency.

Evaluation – Evaluating the data on a regularly planned schedule is important in maintaining knowledge of the facility's current condition. Data evaluation should be cross-referenced between multiple technologies for confirmation of critical calls. The data doesn't lie; however, capturing data tells nothing until it is properly evaluated. Lastly, continuous evaluation of your program process and personnel is a great way to maintain improvement, reliability and ultimate savings.
